THE UNFORGETTABLE MAGIE

On June 17 (Father’s Day), we are honored to present guest speaker, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and ordained Unity Minister, Maria Magdalena De la Cruz Cook Garcia (Magie).  Magie is the creator of Maggie’s Award winning All-Natural Fresh Salsa’s and Dips, a food manufacturing company that distributes its organic products across the country.  Magie was born and raised in an orphanage in the mountains of central Mexico along with seven biological siblings. Her parents cared for over two hundred abandoned and abused children, legally adopting over sixty children over time.

Magie and her siblings were raised in poverty, often struggling for basic necessities of life, including shelter, food, clothing, shoes, and medical care.   Many of the children had endured terrible abuse before coming to the orphanage.  In her book, Mindful Success – How to Use Your Mind to Transform Your Life: from Orphanage to Millionaire, Magie tells of personal demonstration of the prosperity principles she learned and applied in her life that made her a success, journeying from being raised in poverty in Mexico to being homeless in winter in the streets of America, to starting a business with a gift of $800 from a stranger, to becoming a multimillion dollar success.  Her life story is one of meeting both high hopes and deep disappointments. Against all seeming odds, she learned to speak and write English; she earned three academic scholarship, as well as scholarships in three sports:  basketball, soccer, and rowing!  Magie graduated with medals, championships, and awards, plus a degree in interior design from the University of Charleston in 2002.  Then, she was ordained as a Unity Minister at Renaissance Unity in Warren, Michigan and has settled in Clearwater with her husband, Owen Cook.

Before she sold her business to Garden Fresh Gourmet, Maggie’s Salsa’s distribution stretched as far as thirty states in America; its products have been found in supermarkets such as Walmart, Sam’s, Whole Foods Market, The Kroger Company, Harris Teeter, and several other supermarkets.  Magie has won numerous business success awards, including The Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the Small Business Administration in 2009, acknowledged the Mexican Voice of Michoacán for being the youngest, most successful female entrepreneur in 2014, and was also inducted into the Hall of Fame for achievement at the University of Charleston in 2015.   In 2013, Magie and her brother José had rescued thirty-one abandoned and abused orphan kids in Mexico from a drug cartel.  The work of the orphanage they helped to build continues.

Magie’s passion is to encourage people who are receptive to universal spiritual principles to rise above suffering through spiritual awareness and, in turn, to pay it forward by inspiring and enriching the lives of others.

“What you think, what you feel, you attract.”

“I live a very simple life by choice.  If I can do something to shift the reality of someone to a better life or anything like that, then I’m the happiest I can be.”

“When something bad happens to you, there is always something so much better on the way.”

“Plant a seed, and it is like a droplet of water into an endless ocean that creates a ripple effect that goes on forever and it is never forgotten.” –Maggie
